Challenge

The Commonwealth Fund had outgrown its content management system (CMS) and editors were struggling with a cumbersome authoring environment. The Fund approached Velir to reengineer CommonwealthFund.org in order to improve the authoring environment for their staff with additional tools for content management, while maintaining their current frontend design for a consistent user experience. They also wanted a platform that would scale easily, enabling them to add enhancements and features on an ongoing basis.

Solution

Velir recommended the Sitecore CMS due to its strict separation between content and presentation, making it easy to completely rework the backend of the site without affecting the page design. Along with a powerful new authoring environment, the move to Sitecore offered advantages for scalability, stability and security and facilitated easy integration with additional features, including Velir’s custom data management system, Datacenter, as well as Google Mini, user login and profiles, RSS and related content modules.

Results

The resulting site gives staff members the ability to quickly update content and compose e-newsletters from the same interface without affecting the experience of the end user. The Commonwealth Fund now has a stable, scalable website platform with the flexibility to easily connect additional features, enabling them to increase their impact on the U.S. health care system well into the future.
