Overview

As part of its ongoing partnership with The Kaiser Family Foundation, Velir created GlobalHealthFacts.org—a site that provides free, country-level data on more than 100 indicators related to HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other global health conditions. GlobalHealthFacts.org is a companion site to GlobalHealthReporting.org.

The audience for GlobalHealthFacts.org includes policymakers, the media, the healthcare community, and the general public. The challenge Velir faced was to take research-driven data and present it in ways that would be most compelling to this user group. Our design features a Flash-based map that helps users navigate the site and rolls the most important data up to the home-page level. The site also displays the data in a broad range of formats including tables and color-coded maps. Additionally, the custom data sheet application allows users to compare up to five countries against any or all of the site’s indicators, which can then be converted into a pdf file, printed, emailed, or saved. Data can also be downloaded for custom analysis.

In building these sites, Velir has helped Kaiser put key facts and crucial analysis in the hands of the people who need them most.

Project Hero

“With this site, we give users multiple ways to get at data very quickly. It’s all about keeping it to one or two clicks. It’s a very strong design and, as a result, people really like using the site.”
