Overview

In June 2009, the Kaiser Family Foundation launched Kaiser Health News to produce high-quality news coverage of U.S. health care policy and politics. KaiserHealthNews.org publishes original in-depth health policy stories, videos and commentary, and daily summaries of major health care news.

The goal was to provide Kaiser's journalists and editors with state-of-the-art online publishing tools and give readers an engaging experience. Sitecore CMS was selected as the development platform based on its stability, power, flexibility, and Velir's past successes building news-focused web sites in Sitecore. The site features related content, RSS, workflow, and widgets with the latest news headlines. Third-party software integrations include Google Search Appliance, Brightcove for video content, and Wordpress.

Since launching, Kaiser Health News has partnered with, and been quoted by, some of the top news sources in the country, including The Washington Post and NPR News. The business goals of the site were achieved: user experience is as high as the best news web sites, and writers and editors have the flexibility and control they need. Feedback has been very positive.
