Overview

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to improving the health and healthcare of all Americans. The Foundation has funded a significant amount of research across a variety of health-related topics and was searching for a way to package that data collected as charts, graphs, and maps into formats users would find practical and useful—slides and slideshows. The goal of this project was to develop a presentation application offering users the ability to manipulate slides they collected into a personalized slideshow.

The biggest challenge was integrating the tool with the Foundation’s custom content management system. Administrators needed the ability to upload the supporting files in a variety of formats, tag slides to the Foundation’s existing taxonomy, add descriptions and publication metadata to each slide, then preview them before publishing to the public site. Technologies used include Java, Javascript and AJAX.

The final product on rwjf.org included a slide search, which allows users to search by keywords and save slides as PowerPoint, PDF or JPEG files; and a presentation builder, which offers visitors a place to collect rwjf slides related to their topic(s) of interest, manipulate the order of the slides, then download as a single file (with slide notes).

“Integrating the presentation tool into the client's home-grown content management system was a challenge, but working closely with Foundation staff made this much easier. It's exciting to add this kind of interactive feature to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Web site“
