Advancing Education and Entrepreneurship

Based in Kansas City, MO., The Kauffman Foundation was established in the mid-1960s by the late entrepreneur and philanthropist Ewing Marion Kauffman. As the largest private foundation dedicated to education and entrepreneurship, The Kauffman Foundation focuses its efforts on fostering a society of economically independent individuals who are engaged citizens of their communities.

Quick Facts
About the Project

The Kauffman Foundation’s online presence, which includes multiple websites, newsletters, and social channels, has become the primary vehicle for distributing its content and message. However, its online efforts were hampered by the absence of a uniform content strategy, ineffective site search, inconsistent taxonomy, and an information architecture that did not meet users' needs.

Kauffman engaged Velir, on a full-service project effort, to define the strategy for its digital presence and produce a modern look and feel for its flagship site. An intuitive user experience and content architecture and consistent content strategy were also key focus areas of the redesign.

Sitecore was used as the single content repository to streamline Kauffman's editorial operations, provide intuitive content management capabilities through the Page Editor interface and facilitate future content reuse across multiple channels. The redesigned information architecture enabled the site to be less beholden to internal structure and better highlight Kauffman's key focus areas - Education, Entrepreneurship & Kansas City. An integration with Google Tag Manager allows better tracking of engagement across the site, while the Coveo platform provides faceted search capabilities with custom ranking logic to guide users to the most relevant results.
