Velir selected by Somerville Chamber as 2014 Small Business of the Year for good business practices, culture, and innovation

The Somerville Chamber of Commerce announced today that it has selected Velir, a local digital agency based in Davis Square, as 2014 Small Business of the Year. The Award is meant to recognize growing and impactful for-profit businesses in Somerville that symbolize good business practices, vibrant cultures, and innovation.

As all of Somerville’s for-profit employers have less than 500 employees, every Somerville-based business – member or not - is eligible for the Small Business of the Year Award” said Chamber President & CEO, Stephen Mackey. “Annually, nominations are welcomed through the Chamber website and a five member committee makes the final selection.

Velir first appeared on the Chamber’s radar due to its remarkable growth in recent years. Established in 2000 as a web development company by CEO, Mark Gregor, Velir has continued to expand in the Somerville area and is now a full-fledged digital agency that counts some of the word’s largest non-profit foundations, professional associations and corporate organizations as clients.

"We are tremendously honored and humbled by this recognition and have our passionate staff and forward-thinking clients to thank for our growth. It is an absolute joy to work in Davis Square and we are committed to continuing to expand our footprint in the Somerville area."

Velir will be recognized with the award at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner & Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, November 5, at the Holiday Inn. Beverly A. Scott, PhD, General Manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and the MassDOT Rail & Transit Administrator, will deliver the keynote address. Notable recipients on the Small Business of the Year Award in previous years include Altitude, Inc., iRobot, Spotfire Inc., Scout Somerville, Taza Chocolate, and Brooklyn Boulders.
