Velir, Threespot and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation receive recognition for outstanding mobile web site

Velir, a full-service digital agency, today announced that it was honored with a 2013 MobileWebAward by the Web Marketing Association (WMA) for Outstanding Achievement in Mobile for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) website. Velir partnered with RWJF, the nation’s largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and health care, and digital agency Threespot, to those who can help create the social change the foundation is looking to achieve. The new site resolved key issues of mobile performance, poor search functionality, sunken content and tedious editorial workflows.

RWJF’s mission includes a focus on reversing childhood obesity, ensuring access to health insurance coverage, and revolutionizing data-driven health care. Velir worked with the foundation to create a web presence that shares the lessons of their successful programs, fosters new and innovative ideas and enables transformative change. The project had three major objectives: to integrate social media fundamentals into the foundation’s public presence; to facilitate connections among constituents and colleagues to promote discussions and collaboration on issues and content; and to integrate community into RWJF’s public presence for grantees and national program offices and staff.

"The new website allows us to deliver the right content, at the right time, right where our users are. This has resulted in more engagement with our content and is helping us achieve our overall objectives and business goals."

Hope Woodhead, Senior Director of Communications at RWJF

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the WMA for our work with Threespot and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,” said Mark Gregor, CEO of Velir. “Together we have created a modern site that is visually appealing and intuitive to use on any device. We implemented data visualizations, improved content searchability, streamlined authoring and publishing workflows, all while optimizing for desktop, mobile and tablet. Web traffic and engagement have increased, expanding the foundation’s reach as they focus on enhancing the health of all Americans.”

The submission from Velir, Threespot and RWJF was judged against a variety of prominent companies from 96 industries in WMA's 17th annual international Web Competition. The MobileWebAward Competition is for websites and applications built for mobile devices available to users for at least part of calendar year 2013. Entries were judged based on strict criteria in design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity and ease of use by a range of experienced professionals with an in-depth understanding of current state-of-the-art mobile web development, design and marketing skills. The winners were recognized for achieving a standard of excellence for which all mobile websites should strive.

The RWJF site is powered by the Adobe CQ Content Management System as well as Datacenter, Velir's signature data management and visualization platform. This integration empowers RWJF to find new and powerful ways to tell stories with its data. A responsive design framework enables the site to morph gracefully across any number of devices, while the Solr platform provides faceted search capabilities with custom ranking logic to serve up relevant content.
